Software-Defined Ultra-wideband Radio Communications: A New RF Technology for Emergency Response Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Reliable wireless communication links for local-area (short-range) and regional (longrange) reach capabilities are crucial for emergency response to disasters. Lack of a dependable communication system can result in disruptions in the situational awareness between the local responders in the field and the emergency command and control centers. To date, all wireless communications systems such as cell phones and walkietalkies use narrowband radio frequency (RF) signaling for data communication. However, the hostile radio propagation environment caused by collapsed structures and rubble in various disaster sites results in significant degradation and attenuation of narrowband RF signals, which ends up in frequent communication breakdowns.

In this paper, a low voltage ultra-wideband RF receiver for Software-Defined Radio (SDR) is presented. In SDR design, the radio frequency (RF) receiver should be able to receive signals over a broadbandwidth so that it can satisfy a variety of different communication standards. In the proposed design, working frequency ranging from 0.1GHz to 6GHz RF front-end for SDR, covering almost all of mat...

This paper presents a new variable gain low noise amplifier (VG-LNA) for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The proposed VG-LNA uses a common-source (CS) with a shunt-shunt active feedback as an input stage to realize input matching and partial noise cancelling. An output stage consists of a gain-boosted CS cascode and a gain control circuit that moves the high resonant frequency to higher freq...

On February 14, 2002, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States adopted the First Report and Order that permitted the commercial operation of ultra wideband (UWB) technology (FCC, 2002). The FCC allocated a bandwidth of 7.5GHz, i.e. from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz, to unlicensed use for UWB applications. Ultra Wideband is defined as any communication technology that occupies great...

An ultra-wideband (UWB) software defined radio (SDR) implementation is presented. The developed impulse radio (IR) transceiver employs first order bandpass (BP) sampling at a conversion frequency which is four times the channel bandwidth. The subsampling architecture directly provides the RF signal avoiding any non-ideal mixer stages and reduces the requirements of digital signal processing imp...

Wireless communication technology has given us convenient ways to transfer information from one point to other anywhere in the world. The recent popularity of wireless networks results in many additional requirements of the system, especially the need of high data rates, demand for high quality multimedia services and the requirement of the greater bandwidth. The Ultra Wideband (UWB) radio comm...
